Fast Company has highlighted an exciting program milestone for Tulsa Remote: Since 2018, Tulsa Remote has welcomed more than 4,000 remote workers to Tulsa, offering a $10,000 relocation incentive!
Tulsa Remote’s Managing Director Justin Harlan contributed to the article and shares the key to success goes beyond the cash incentive. “It’s about getting out of the old-fashioned way of thinking about economic development,” he says. “It’s a little bit harder, but the return is there; it just takes a little bit different thinking, especially in today’s world where flexible workers have so much choice in terms of geography.”
One thing we feel sets Tulsa Remote apart? The program is designed to help participants put down roots. From intentionally connecting new residents with fellow members and alumni to introducing them to local nonprofits, business leaders, and a dedicated staff member that checks in throughout their first year to hear about their experience, the program focuses on community, not just relocation. “Our goal is to help people not just move here, but stay here and become part of the community,” Justin explains. Thoughtful connections and partnerships with organizations like Experience Tulsa and Gradient provide ample opportunities to connect, co-work and build real relationships.
That focus shows in the numbers: 96% of participants complete their first year, and 80% choose to stay past their first year. “When people find a community, professional opportunities, and a sense of purpose, they choose to stay,” Justin says. “That’s what makes a program sustainable.”
We’re proud of the community that continues to thrive in Tulsa as a result of the program. As of January 2026, over 4,000 remote workers have made the move, with more beginning their Tulsa journey every month.
